The medals keep coming for the Dutch, this time in the men’s 1000 m in speed skating. We have seen in the speed skating arena another 1, 2, 3 Dutch, with Jorrit Bergsma who set another Olympic record ahead of the pre-race favourite Sven Kramer and his compatriot Bob de Jong

So 19 medals out off possible 27 for the Netherelands in only speed skating event. That makes them the sport most successful Team event at winter Olympics. There could be more medals for the Dutch ladies 5000 m and men and women team pursuit still to come. Anyway surely they might need another plane home for their medals. Talking about number of medals in speed skating, the closest challenge to the Netherlands teams is coming from 2 teams Canada and Russia, the both have 2, just 2 in total medals. So out off 9 speed skating events so far, the Dutch swept the podium. This dominance is nothing but at Sochi it is the biggest skating record ever.
